STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Bully XIX, the bulldog who served as Mississippi State University's mascot from 2001 to 2009, has been euthanized because of declining health.
The MSU athletics website says the tan and white dog named TaTonka Gold was born in 2000 and was the first official mascot purchased and cared for by the university. The site says he was humanely put to death Tuesday at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
In recent years, he had been diagnosed and treated for several diseases, including osteoarthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
The former mascot was known by several names, including Bully, Tonka and T-Money.
He was the father of MSU's current mascot, Bully XX, also known as Champ.
