Gas delivery man robbed, claims no one helped

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

James Hilton of Clinton was making a fuel delivery to this gas station on the corner of Raymond Road and Shady Lane Drive around 7:00 Monday night.  One moment he was connecting hoses, the next he was staring down the barrel of a gun.

"Two kids came up behind me, robbed me, put a gun in my face and told me to give them my wallet," said Hilton.

He described the two black males as young, no older than 14 or 15 years old.  After they walked away, Hilton ran inside the station to call police.  He said the manager refused saying he did not want to get involved.

Hilton said outside he met the same resistance.

"There was a car right here, pumping gas, the place was full, no one called the cops," said Hilton.  "No one here would actually call the police.  It actually took me 15 minutes to call the police."

The store manager watched as we interviewed Hilton and later denied his claims. "No, I called him the cops," said the gas station manager Kel Patel. "But he said I got it so I didn't call, you know?"

Hilton was still shaken by the armed robbery.

"A job ain't worth losing your life over," said Hilton.

He has since quit his job and is losing faith in his fellow man.

"I'd call the cops for someone, you think you'd get that in return," said Hilton.

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green says the robbery is under investigation.
