Hazardous Holiday Heat

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There's a dangerous amount of heat expected to kick off the holiday weekend. Normal highs for this time of the year are in the lower 90s; but today we'll be closer to 100 degrees.

The heat index is expected to reach above 100 degrees before lunch time and continue to climb for at least 3-4 hours in the afternoon hours. Winds from the north east will help marginally, but we're still unable to avoid the effects of the oppressive heat.

During the holiday weekend the temps will stay above the norm for this time of the year, both Saturday and Sunday. A chance of rain will develop for us on Monday; 30% chance on Tuesday as well.

Keep the heat tips in mind over this holiday weekend and stay hydrated (WITH WATER) as much as possible. Alcohol tends to de-hydrate us in hot conditions; and stay in the shade as much as possible. UV index is high/extreme as well, so sun block is a good idea.
