Work to begin on Hwy. 475 bypass

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will begin work on a bypass project on Highway 475 to ease traffic congestion.

"We're very excited about breaking ground on this project," said Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall. "For quite some time motorists have experienced congestion here during their morning and evening commutes, and this project will ease traffic immensely. Upon completion commuters will have the option to bypass the roundabout and will have four brand new lanes connecting them from Highway 80 to State Route 475."

The project will create a continuous four-lane road beginning at Lakeland Drive and crossing over Old Brandon Road on a new bridge to Highway 80.

There will be an access ramp from the new road to the Jackson-Evers International Airport. The current roundabout will remain, but the new road will effectively bypass the roundabout.
