Miss Mississippi 2011 crowned

Saturday night, Miss North Central Mississippi Mary Margaret Roark of Cleveland, took the crown as Miss Mississippi 2011.

Roark was awarded a $10,000 scholarship. She will get to represent Mississippi in the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas in January at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

The 1st runner up and the winner of a $7,500 scholarship was Brandon's Miss Central Mississippi, Shelby Danielle Corn.

The 2nd runner up was Vicksburg's own, Miss Heartland, Fenly Akers.

Miss Pine Belt/Gulf Coast, Marie Wicks of Ocean Springs was named 3rd runner up and Miss Delta Blues, Stephanie Stanford of Grenada was named 4th runner up.

For more than 50 years young women have come to Vicksburg hoping to win the title of Miss Mississippi.

Forty-five contestants arrived in Vicksburg on last Sunday morning to begin the week long competition where they could win scholarship money, prizes and the opportunity to represent Mississippi at the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.
