Roark wears crown of Miss Mississippi 2011

Twenty-year-old Mary Margaret Roark now wears the crown of Miss Mississippi.

Sunday afternoon the Cleveland resident met the media after a whirlwind night and coronation.

Roark is a junior at Mississippi State University.

The communications major lived the dream of 43 contestants when she was crowned on the stage at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

She was also a preliminary swimsuit winner.

The pageant winner describes herself as a relaxed outdoors person who loves the Delta and the warmth of the state.

This was her second year competing.

She entered the pageant as Miss North Central.

Her platform is Alzheimer's awareness, in honor of her grandmother who suffers from the disease.

Roark said after the crowning and taking her walk, she felt like a celebrity.

"The crown, the sash, it's all just still soaking in. Last night was lots of pictures, lots of thank you's. I got the keys to my new car from George Carr and then this morning when I woke up I had to remind myself that it was real," said Miss Mississippi 2011 Mary Margaret Roark.

The avid photographer said she'll need a new camera to document the year ahead.

Roark also received a $10,000.00 scholarship.

First runner up was Miss Central Mississippi Shelby Danielle Corn of Brandon.
