Posted: Updated:

Now to a story that has generated a huge amount of interest among our viewers, and on Facebook.

The owner of a cat which was mauled to death by two Pit Bulls says the dog was trying to attack him when police opened fire and killed the animal.

Pearl police showed us the grisly pictures of two cats killed July 4th. Ronnie Grogan tells us he was helping police track down the animals. Grogan said the dogs came into his garage and killed his daughters pet cat of 10 years. Grogan tells us his daughter has Down Syndrome and was devastated at the loss of her pet cat. According to Grogan police cornered the dog in a neighbors back yard and that they hoped to contain it.

The male pit bull named John McCain, was shot by an officer, after it lunged toward Grogan in an aggressive manner. Grogan pressed charges against the pet owner. Since the incident the Pit Bull owners admit responsibility and have apologized for the death of Grogan's pet.

On WLBT's Facebook page John and Misty Glenn say they will be forced to find a new home for the female pit bull. The female pit bull was captured by the owner and is now banned from Pearl city limits.
