Local musicians were honored Sunday night in downtown Jackson.
The 33rd Annual Mississippi Gospel Music Awards were held Sunday night and the 37th Annual Jackson Music Awards will be held Monday at the Marriott Hotel.
Some of the honorees include Willie Clayton, Bobby Rush, Mel Waiters and others.
"We claim the title as this is the birthplace of Americas music. You can not enjoy any kind of music without finding roots of that music in Mississippi. We were in LA. and the Grammy Museum and we did a Mississippi Night before the Grammy's and the music we were featuring was all Mississippi artists and at the Grammy Museum 3/4 of the Grammy Museum in Hollywood is Mississippi artists,"
The Jackson Music Awards will be held Monday at 6 p.m. and tickets are $20.
