The Heat is on at the Viking Classic

MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The annual Viking Classic golf tournament is hoping to be a big hit this week in Madison. Organizers moved the tournament from its usual early fall date to July, hoping for better weather.

Organizers are hoping big crowds come out to see the PGA golfers, and see the cooking demonstrations in the culinary tent.

New Orleans chef Emeril Lagasse will be on hand Thursday with two shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The 1 p.m. show has already sold out.

Nearly 3 Million dollars has been raised for the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in the five years Viking has been the tournament sponsor.

Nearly 4,000 spectators are expected to attend.

Tournament Director, Randy Watkins says the event is a big boost to the local economy.
