Jackson Police Officer released on bond

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A veteran Jackson Police Officer has been indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Sgt. Tony Davis, 45, was arrested after a stolen computer equipped with a tracking device was found in his possession.

Davis has been a Jackson Police officer for 18 years.

Davis was recently promoted to sergeant.

Davis told WLBT he is innocent of the charge, although he admitted buying an I-pad computer for $250 from what he called a "reputable person" in the past few weeks.

"I get my attorney and we go from here, but we will get to the bottom of it and these bogus charges and from there, the ball may wherever it lay, it may fall and somebody gets sued behind it, they get sued behind it, but they are bogus charges," Sgt. Davis said.

Davis turned himself in Tuesday morning.

He was released from the Hinds County Detention Center on $5,000 bond late Tuesday afternoon.

Davis is scheduled to appear in Hinds County Court at 9:00 Wednesday morning.
