Entergy Miss. purchases Jackson power plant

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Entergy Mississippi announced plans to purchase a power plant in Jackson Wednesday morning.

The company is acquiring the Hinds Energy Facility from K-Gen Power for $206-million.

Officials say the acquisition is another step in providing clean and affordable power to its 435,000 customers.

Entergy Mississippi's CEO did say customers will see a slight rate increase, but long term rates will come down.

The purchase also means $5-million dollars in property tax revenue for Jackson.

20 jobs will remain in Jackson as well.
