Metro Inn crime stats

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's been almost three weeks since the murder of a Jackson man, that Hinds County prosecutors say was racially motivated. On June 26th, 49-Year-Old James Craig Anderson was run over while walking near the Metro Inn.  Two Brandon teens, John Rice and Deryl Dedmon were arrested.

Hinds County law enforcement say the motel has been a nuisance over the years.  Now the city has now released the number of calls to service at the Metro Inn and you won't believe how often they're called there.

WLBT obtained a report of calls to service from Jackson police to the Metro Inn from July 2010 to July 2011. In that time, there was a grand total of 371 calls to the motel, on a variety of crimes.

The most common was disturbances or disorderly conduct which totaled 98. There was everything from stabbing's to shots fired, rapes, aggravated assaults and simple fights.

It's enough to question whether the metro inn could qualify as a nuisance motel by the city of Jackson. They've made cases with less in the past, like when they deemed Chuckies Lounge on Ridgeway Street a nuisance nightclub. They had 110 calls to service in a years time. And remember the Upper Level nightclub. The city sanctioned them the same way in 2008 when they only had 21 calls to service in a year.

The two Brandon teens, Deryl Dedmon and John Rice remain jailed on murder charges in the death of James Craig Anderson.

The Hinds County District Attorney's office says they're still awaiting Jackson police to finish their investigation.
