Bond set for Brandon teen

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Brandon teen accused in the hit-and-run death of a Jackson man could get out of jail today.This morning bond was set at $5,000.00 for John Rice during a hearing in Hinds County Court. 

Rice and Deryl Dedmon, both 18, were initially charged with murder in the death of James Anderson.  Rice was being held on no bond, even though Jackson Police say it was Dedmon who drove the truck that struck Anderson.  Dedmon is being held on $800,000.00 bond. 

A Jackson police officer testified that investigators should have charged Rice with aggravated assault for his role. 

Hinds county prosecutor Robert SchulerI-Smith said his office plans to present the case against both teens as murder, to a grand jury.
