JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson woman is behind bars charged with murder after allegedly shooting-and-killing the man that was living with her. Atlean Thomas, 45, was arrested at the home she is renting at 1242 Ferncreek Dr., in northeast Jackson.

At the same home Jackson Police investigators discovered 33-year-old Houston Turnage, owner of local club Floods, dead from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police arrived at the home shortly after 6:30 a.m., and say the shooting followed an argument between the suspect and the victim.

The incident has shocked neighbors, surprised to start their days with a parade of police cars on their street. D'otis Walker who lives right next door said he never noticed anything suspicious from his neighbors.

"They was all to themselves," Walker said. "Never know if they were going or coming."

Thomas was renting the home and had lived there for more than one year. The property owner described Thomas as one of her best tenants and could not believe the allegations.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart was on the scene investigating the homicide.

"My examination determined that he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest," Grisham-Stewart said.

The victim has not been publicly identified by law enforcement and will not be until his family is notified.
