MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The Madison County Sheriff's Deputy at the center of a discrimination lawsuit announces he is resigning from public service.
Sheriff Toby Trowbridge has issued a one sentence press release stating that "After nearly 12 years of service with the Madison County Sheriff's Department, Chief Eddie Belvedresi has elected to retire from public service".
The announcement comes just days after WLBT's report about a federal discrimination lawsuit filed against the Madison County Sheriff's office by Rodney Thompson and former Patrolman Josh Hobbs.
Belvedressi was heard, in a recording, saying Thompson would not be hired because of his service in the National Guard.
Hobbs confronted Belvedressi about his violation of federal law and Hobbs was fired.
