MDOT ensures MS residents prepare for hurricanes

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is taking steps to ensure that you are prepared in case of a hurricane.

MDOT representatives from Jackson setup shop at Edgewater Mall Saturday as part of a series of hurricane blitzes the organization will host. They handed out information pamphlets full of evacuation routes, as well as Twitter and Facebook accounts to follow in case of an emergency.

As we get deeper into hurricane season, MDOT officials say they just want to make sure everyone is prepared.

"A lot of people just simply aren't prepared for this. They won't know where to go, who to call. When you lose power you lose a lot of sources of sources of getting information. That's what these are for. We want people to know we're working with them on getting them safe and keeping them safe," MDOT representative, Michael Flood said.

MDOT officials say they were happy to see that the public on the coast seemed so receptive.
