Service dog for little girl with cerebral palsy is missing

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A highly trained dog vanished from a Pearl family's back yard and has not been seen since.  Anya, a seven month old German Shepherd, was last seen in the backyard of the Thomas' home on Jennifer Drive Friday afternoon.  She was securely fenced in with a smaller family dog Daisy.

"We knew that if the big dog got out there was no way the little dog wouldn't have followed her.  That was when we knew something was wrong," said dog owner Walter Thomas.

Walter and Amber Thomas fear she was stolen.  The black and cream German Shepherd was more than just a precious pet.  She is a service dog for the couple's two year old daughter Emily who has cerebral palsy.

"She is bred to be a companion for Emily.  As she grows and tries to bear weight in her legs Anya is large enough to support her.  I mean this dog tells us if she has seizures. This is a huge vital part to make sure she is safe," said Emily's mother Amber Thomas.

If you have seen this dog please call the Pearl Police Department at (601) 939-7000 or call Amber Thomas at 903-720-0030.

"We just really want her home.  We're so desperate to get her home.  We don't want to get back at whoever took her.  We just want her back home," said Amber Thomas.
