COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Copiah County authorities are investigating a Tuesday homicide.

Larry Mazie, 30, was found in his home on Henry Road in rural Copiah County Tuesday morning.

Mazie had been shot in the upper torso and Sheriff Harold Jones says it appears Mazie had been dead for at least 24-hours.

The victim's father, Larry Mazie, Sr., says he is shocked over his son's death.

"I have no idea why anybody would do him like that," Mazie, Sr. said. "This is tragic."

"We have a person of interest, but we're not disclosing anything other than we have a person of interest and we're looking forward," Sheriff Jones said. "And we're trying to continue this investigation and get it solved."

Investigators were told Mazie was last seen alive Monday.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is assisting the Copiah County Sheriff's Department in the investigation.
