The next tropical system may be on the horizon

Posted: Updated:

I'm watching a strong tropical wave near Cuba that is getting better organized. The system had been rather disorganized on Monday, but throughout the day Tuesday showers and storms have been on the increase. The Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to check the system out on Wednesday.

Most tropical computer models take the system across the Gulf of Mexico and into Texas later this week. Some intensity models develop the system into a Tropical Storm. The next name on the list is "Don."

Of course anytime we have a system in the Gulf, we have to watch it closely.

As far as our immediate local forecast, I expect more downpours on Wednesday afternoon. The best rain chances are south of I-20, but isolated showers or storms are possible north of I-20. Flash flooding and lightning is the main storm threat.

High temperatures will reach the lower 90s on Wednesday, with head indices in the lower 100s.
