Tropical storm Don forms in the Gulf

Posted: Updated:

We're tracking Tropical Storm Don in the First Alert Weather Center. As of Wednesday evening, Don has winds of 40mph and is headed west-northwest near 12mph.

Most data suggests that a large area of high pressure will build over our area going into the weekend, which will likely guide Don toward the Texas coast. Though an exact landfall location is uncertain, I expect Don to make landfall along the Texas coast between Houston and Brownsville late Friday or Saturday.

Keep in mind the path of tropical systems can change quickly and we always need to keep an eye on any system in the Gulf of Mexico.

Our forecast will continue to feature scattered afternoon downpours with highs in the lower to middle 90s. Heat indices will generally be between 100-105.

As the ridge of high pressure expands over us this weekend, temperatures will get even hotter, while rain chances go down.
