JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
An area of tropical air is still dominating our forecast in Mississippi; with the threat of rain in the afternoon hours. Isolated T-storms began moving from the gulf coast and headed north, forming faster in the heating of the afternoon.
Evening showers should come to a quick end after the sun goes down. The extra heat of the daytime hours will be needed to sustain the storms.
But more heat is on the way for the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday temps will climb into the upper 90s once again. And with the threat of rising temps also places us in the realm of seeing the heat index to rise above 105+.
The latest for the Hurricane season is the threat of DON; a tropical storm at this point. Don's moving so fast through the warm gulf of Mexico that he won't have a chance to reach hurricane strength of 74+mph.
And DON is headed to the most southern tip of Texas; not a threat to the Mississippi coast.
