FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The state's sales tax holiday is in full swing. From now until midnight Saturday, shoppers in most cities can save the 7 percent sales tax on clothing and shoes purchases. Any single item costing 100 dollars or more, however, will be taxed.

Shoppers at JC Penney at Dogwood festival Market have been having fun and saving a lot.

"Between the coupons and tax free, we saved over half of our purchases just now," said Sharyn Thornton of Raymond, shopping with her two sons. "

I'm trying to cash in on some of the tax free weekend. Got my coupons and my daughter, we're out school shopping, says Mary Arthur of Simpson County.

Many stores, including JCPenney, will open early and close late Saturday for the sales tax holiday.

"The extended hours are from 9-11 today (Friday) and 7-11 tomorrow," says David Willoughby, JCPenney store manager.
