SMITHVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The PeeWee Football League in Smithville, Miss., took a handoff from New York Giants' quarterback Eli Manning and will run with it.
Smithville was heavily damaged in an April 27 tornado, and the little league teams were scrambling for both a place to practice and equipment.
According to Sunday's Clarion Ledger, Tracy Cox, whose 9-year-old son Jacob plays in the league, wrote sports companies and personalities for help. She had no addresses for Peyton or Eli Manning, so she wrote their dad, former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that Cox got an email on Monday from a Manning family representative. Eli wanted to donate cleats and needed the boys' shoe sizes.
