JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

WLBT continues to follow the story of a man run down outside of a Jackson hotel. The public first saw the video Monday of a late June hit-and-run murder.

That video is from surveillance cameras that captured the incident at the Metro Inn in Jackson.

James Craig Anderson was killed in a hit-and-run in the parking lot of the Metro Inn on Ellis Avenue.

Prosecutors say the teens responsible had spent the night partying into the early morning hours, then drove to Jackson.

The video obtained by CNN shows the teens beating the victim in the parking lot of the motel.

Afterwards, Anderson was seen stumbling along Ellis Avenue.

Prosecutors say that's when Deryl Dedmon allegedly runs his truck over him.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith said Dedmon targeted Anderson, because he was black.

Dedmon is charged with murder and remains jailed with an $800,000 bond.

Winston Thompson represents the Anderson family. Thompson said they hope justice is served and something good is a result of this devastating act.

"The issue of race is one that is very present," Thompson said. "I think a lot of people don't believe it or are in denial this could possibly be the case. But it's true so the race issue is one obviously we are going to have to deal with and also you have the criminal aspect."

A second teenager John Rice, 18, is charged with simple assault for his role in the beating. Rice was released on $5,000 bond.

Winston Thompson says his investigators have found the teens have allegedly targeted others before, possibly homeless people.

There were other teens in the vehicles with Dedmon and Rice. They are not facing any charges at this time.
