"The Help" opened in theaters Wednesday in Mississippi.

Some of the lines for tickets at Tinseltown in Pearl were longer than others. The movie played on two screens throughout the day.

"The Help" is a drama laced with humor and tells the tale of a young white woman in Jackson and her attempts to get black maids to trust her so she can write a book about their experiences.

The story is fiction, but it brought back memories for moviegoers.

Mary Anderson of Forest said, "I really enjoyed it, my mother and aunts used to be maids, had to wear uniforms."

"I can remember family members working as maids. I think it brings about an appreciation for everyone to say thank you to the black help," said Irene German of Jackson.

"The Help" is author Katherine Stockett's first novel who is also a Jackson native.
