Car fire backs up traffic in Rankin County

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Traffic slowly returned to normal after a fiery situation on the interstate Thursday.

Just after 4pm, a car swerved into the median of I-20 near Airport Road in Pearl and burst into flames.

Only the shell of the car remained, surrounded by grass blackened from the flames.

All but one lane of I-20 had to be shut down temporarily.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire or if anyone inside was injured.
