JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
One man has died and another person was injured in a car accident that backed up traffic for miles Wednesday morning on Interstate 20.
Spokeswoman Colendula Green of the Jackson Police Department says a woman was driving east on I-20 in a truck pulling a trailer. The trailer somehow became detached from the truck, gained speed, crossed the median, went airborne, and then crashed into two cars.
A man driving a Dodge Stratus was badly injured, according to Officer Green. She says the driver of a Toyota Camry was injured and taken to a Jackson hospital.
The driver of the Dodge was later pronounced dead. Officer Green identified him as Andre Brown, 40.
The westbound lanes of I-20 near I-220 were closed during much of the morning rush hour, but they were re-opened to traffic around 9:30.
Light rain was falling at the time of the accident, but it's not clear if weather was a factor.
