Chillaxin' Jackson Truck and Car show rolled into the capital city Saturday. A few dozen vehicles were on display at the Trade Mart at the Mississippi Fairgrounds.
"We spend so much time in our cars that they are kind of an extension of us. So personalizing them just comes naturally. You can tell a car usually by who the driver is," said event organizer Ralph Randell.
Like John Marque's bright colored Honda. "Yellow, just cause I like to be seen. Any bright color, but yellow. Can you really look passed that?" asked Marquez.
The vehicles were judged on the custom changes and some of them were loaded.
"I drive a 2007 Civic SI with a few built in modifications," said Julia McDonald of Hattiesburg. "I do have some precious cargo. It's my daughters first car show and they have been very excited all day about it, but now they're passed out in the car."
No one else seemed to be sleeping in the midst of the "Crank It Up" car audio contest. Some of the vehicles had more bells and whistles than most home entertainment centers. Participating drivers say there is always more to add.
"As you can see it's got some wheels. It's got a few performance upgrades, mainly cosmetic right now. But I got big plans for the future," said Marquez.
Those that received trophies will qualify for the national auto show in Shreveport, Louisiana at the end of September.
