Mississippi holding party primary runoffs Tuesday

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi voters Tuesday will finish choosing the Democratic nominee for governor and the Republican nominee for state treasurer.

Nominees will also be decided for several state House and Senate races. And, most counties will have party primary runoffs for local offices such as supervisors or sheriffs.

People who voted in one party's primary on Aug. 2 are not allowed to cross over and vote in the other party's primary Tuesday.

Those who didn't vote at all on Aug. 2 may cast a ballot in either runoff.

The Democratic gubernatorial primary is between Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree and Clarksdale attorney and developer Bill Luckett.

The Republican primary for treasurer is between Personnel Board director Lynn Fitch of Madison and state Sen. Lee Yancey of Brandon.

The general election is Nov. 8.
