Irene's impact on our weather

Posted: Updated:

Irene made landfall near Cape Lookout, NC Saturday morning as a Category 1 hurricane. The system will continue to weaken as it tracks up the east coast. I expect Irene to be a tropical storm by the time it reaches New England with flooding the biggest threat.

Irene actually is having an indirect impact on our weather in Mississippi. The large circulation around the system is sending drier air our way this weekend. The net result is it will feel a lot more comfortable outside, especially at night.

I expect lots of sunshine through the weekend. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s. Lows will be in the 60s.

The forecast remains dry through much of next week.
