The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has been called in to action to assist with Hurricane Irene.
MEMA's Director of Response, Tom McAllister, has been called to the National Response Coordination Center at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.
He will help coordinate mutual aid resources for states in Irene's path.
McAllister's main role is to make sure states impacted by Irene have the manpower and resources to conduct response efforts like search and rescue along with communications and sheltering.
McAllister is expected to be in Washington, D.C. over the next couple of weeks.
