RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Search crews continue to scour the Spillway at the Ross Barnett Reservoir Friday morning in hopes of recovering the body of Daniel Boyd, 54, of Jackson. Boyd fell into the Spillway while fishing on the rocky banks of the Pearl River at approximately 11:30 Thursday night, according to MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks agents.

The MDWFP and Reservoir Patrol are conducting the search and have been concentrating on an area right in front of the Spillway gates, which hold back water from the Reservoir.

While they have identified an area to concentrate their search, the location is providing some challenges, according to Jim Walker with the MDHFP.

"The bottom out here is dangerous," Walker said. "There's a lot of structure (concrete debris), there's nets, there's hooks."

Those impediments discourage the use of drag lines and divers, so Walker said they are limited to using sonar to locate Boyd's body.

Walker said Boyd is not being considered a drowning victim, because they are still waiting to establish the circumstance of how he fell into the water.
