RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Judge John Emfinger has sentenced Casey Mark Burgess to 20 years for aggravated assault and 10 years for attempted kidnapping. A jury found Casey Mark Burgess guilty of those charges Wednesday, in the attempted abduction of a woman in the Castlewoods area in September of 2011.

Burgess was also sentenced to 30 years for 3 counts of sexual battery in April, for an event that happened just before the kidnapping. He must serve 50 years in jail before he is eligible for parole.

The sheriffs department says Burgess forced a woman into his truck at knife point, in the Pinnacle subdivision, around 1 p.m. September 2, 2011. Authorities say Burgess did not know the woman, who had just come home with her 2-year-old.

Burgess apparently told the woman he had papers for her, to get her to approach his vehicle. Deputies say Burgess grabbed the woman by the throat, and had her in the truck, when she began fighting back, and was able to escape with his knife.

The woman began yelling for help, making her way to her garage with Burgess in pursuit. Her yelling eventually scared Burgess off. He crashed his truck on Hollybush road while fleeing, where he was arrested.
