RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Brandon man is facing serious charges, after attempting to abduct a woman in the Castlewoods area Thursday. Rankin County investigators say 36-year-old Casey Mark Burgess is charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
The sheriffs department says Burgess forced a woman into his truck at knife point, in the Pinnacle subdivision, around 1 p.m. Authorities say Burgess did not know the woman, who had just come home with her 2-year-old.
Burgess apparently told the woman he had papers for her, to get her to approach his vehicle. Deputies say Burgess grabbed the woman by the throat, and had her in the truck, when she began fighting back, and was able to escape with his knife.
The woman began yelling for help, making her way to her garage with Burgess in pursuit. Her yelling eventually scared Burgess off.
He crashed his truck on Hollybush road while fleeing, where he was arrested. Burgess suffered a broken rib, in the crash.
Investigators say he has three prior sexual battery charges.
