Jackson, MS (WLBT) - Bond is denied for the Jackson teen charged in the capital city's latest homicide.
16-year-old Bennie Beal went before a judge this morning on charges including murder. As he left court, the teen said he fired his gun in self defense, shooting a store clerk on Labor Day. Jackson Police Spokeswoman Colendula Green confirms 49-year-old store clerk Dilip Patel died Tuesday afternoon of a gunshot wound to the head. Patel was shot in the parking lot of the Shell Station at 11-41 University Boulevard, formerly Terry Road, Monday afternoon.
Police say the incident stemmed from an argument over a gas bill. Four people fled the scene in a green Volvo. That car was found at 713 Winter Street where Beal and three others were taken into custody. So far, Beal is the only one charged in the case.
