Healthcare consumes income increases

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The gains Americans made in their income over the past ten years have been essentially wiped out by the rise in healthcare costs.

According to a study from the Rand Corporation, average American families experienced a thirty percent increase in income from 1999 to 2009 but monthly health insurance premiums went up one hundred twenty-eight percent.

Out-of-pocket spending for copays, deductibles and medications went up seventy-eight percent.

This study was led by researchers at the RAND Corporation and published in the journal Health Affairs.
