Emergency responders in Byram are taking a break from their typical duties this Friday. In honor of 9-11, first responders volunteered their time to students at Gary Road Intermediate School.
One of those first responders is Byram Fire Chief Marshall Robinson. Robinson met with a group of third graders to talk to them about the events that took place on September 11th, 2001.
Robinson says one of his goals is to teach the students about the courage, sacrifice, commitment and desire responders had on 9-11. Robinson hopes the young people realize that they have all of the same positive characteristics.
"These are things that firefighters and emergency service, police, EMS had that particular day, the desire to serve, the courage to do something they knew might not allow them to come home, but it's those things that these children will learn that effect them everyday, the courage to say no to drugs, the desire to want to achieve," says Chief Robinson.
