Military park observes anniversary of terror attacks

Posted: Updated:

People across the country and right here in the Magnolia State honored the lives taken 10 years ago during the 9/11 attacks.

At the noon hour Sunday a child bowed her head during a moment of silence at the Vicksburg Military Park.

A giant yellow ribbon with the words "Lest We Forget" was lined with American flags at the park entrance.

The sounds of sirens in the background pierced the silence as Mississippians paused in remembrance.

Flags fly at half staff across the nation.

Governor Haley Barbour ordered the state flag lowered in observance of Patriot Day from sunrise to sunset.

Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. also proclaimed a Day of Solemn Commemoration of the events and called upon all citizens to observe a moment of remembrance.
