Lieutenant Thomas Norris, a Navy Seal, Vietnam Veteran and Medal of Honor recipient says the September 11 attacks were a surprise to everyone.

"It was a real eye-opener and awakening for this country. The fact that because we're the United States doesn't mean that we are exempt from the same kind of activity that happens in other countries," said  Lt. Norris.

Lieutenant Norris also served 20 years as an FBI Special Agent specializing in counter terrorism. He says since 9/11 the US is more secure.

"We have an incredible country and we're very resilient, you may hit us once but don't even think about doing it again. We are not going to stand by and let it happen. We are not going to stand by and let it happen. I'm really proud that I am part of this great country and I'm really supportive of the men and women that help keep us free," Lt. Norris added.

Lieutenant Norris was the featured speaker at a salute to heroes Saturday night, MC'd by WLBT News Director Dennis Smith. Norris reminds all Americans to maintain their patriotism and steadfast in the support of the country's military efforts around the world.
