JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The warm glow of flickering lights filled the south lawn of the State Capitol Sunday evening for final September 11th tributes.

Dozens attended a candlelight and prayer vigil where elected officials and religious leaders reflected on the events that occurred a decade ago.

Experiences of that day were shared and relived by many in attendance.

On that fateful day one Jackson couple had a daughter in New York City and son in Washington D.C, both survived.

"We couldn't get in touch with either one of them..We had to just wait for the one in New York and her first words were Mama and Daddy, I'm ok," said Rosemary Tennant of Jackson as she held back tears.

"I was in San Francisco California. I had just awakened about almost seven. I turned to TV on and I thought I was watching a preview for a movie, because I saw on plane go into a building," said Jerry Jones of Memphis who traveled to the event with his church group.

WLBT's own Paul Williams as well as Lt. Governor Phil Bryant participated in the program.
