Several residents of North Hills Apartments on Northside Drive are complaining about conditions at the complex. The complaints range from bug-infested stagnant water to mold and unsightly swimming pools.
Residents of the once opulent apartment complex say standing water is crawling with insects making walkways impassable. Roofs are weather-worn and leaking. Also, some apartments are inhabitable because of standing water and mold.
One tenant said, "You come out here certain times of the day and you'll see sewage running all down the street, just sewage. Nobody wants to fix anything, yet they want us to pay."
WLBT Reporter Warren Strain asked one employee of the complex about the tenant's statement. She said, "We really came outside to find out what you were doing on the property and if there's someone who's got a complaint, obviously it has to come through the property because we try to handle everything orderly."
Shortly after WLBT left the complex, a maintenance crew cleared a clogged storm drain and freed the stagnant water. Concerned residents say it's a start but there is a lot of work to be done.
Local management says a new company has taken over the property and they are working to address the concerns of the residents.
