Five people were sentenced for insurance fraud involving the state and school employees health insurance plan announced Attorney General Jim Hood.
Last Friday, Christine Degrate, Shantwana Johnson, Veronica Newell, Tiana Whitsett, and Isis Young all pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, mail fraud, and making false representation to defraud the government.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi, which administers the health insurance plan, had three employees that processed claims of up to $44,000 to at least 11 state employees for reimbursement on medical procedures that never occurred.
Judge John Emfinger imposed 10 to 15 year sentences in a Rankin County court.
