Rain chances increase

Posted: Updated:

I have updated the forecast for today. The atmosphere appears to be a little more conducive for shower and thunderstorm development today than anticipated earlier this morning. Shower activity west of I-55 and north of I-20 is already picking up. I'm going to raise rain chances to 40% and lower our high to 90. This may still be too warm for areas that get rain this morning.  I'll also be watching for severe trends. Areas north of I-20 that can stay rain-free and heat up, will have better chance at some strong storms this afternoon.

A cold front will push into northwest Mississippi this afternoon. This is where the highest rain chances will be today, but at least isolated showers or storms are possible across south Mississippi.

The front will push southward tonight. This will help isolated to scattered rain and storms to continue through the evening hours. A few storms may become severe and produce hail and gusty winds.

As the front continues south, rain chances will diminish thorough the night, though I can't rule out at least isolated activity overnight or on Thursday morning.

Cooler and drier air will filter in on Thursday. Highs will only make it into the upper 70s on Thursday as some clouds hang on and we'll have a breezy northerly wind to contend with.

The weekend weather will be quite nice. Sunshine. 60s for lows, 80s for highs.
