Seven Jackson area post offices on study list

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The U. S. Postal Service is getting ready to downsize, and is studying 3,700 post offices that are candidates for closure. Five Jackson USPS retail outlets are on the list, as are two others in the Jackson area.

The postal service feels that customer's habits are changing, and they no longer need a physical post office to conduct postal business.

Our customer's habits have made it clear they no longer require a physical post office to conduct most of their postal business. More and more people are conducting their postal business on line or on their smart phone.

Those post offices that close would be replaced by a Village Post Office. These would be operated by local businesses, such as pharmacies, grocery stores and other appropriate retailers, and would offer popular postal products and services such as stamps and flat-rate shipping.
