JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's the season for great music. The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra opened its season Saturday night at Thalia Mara Hall.

The orchestra has a busy season with events scheduled from one end of the state to the other. Officials say they are seeing a broad spectrum of people attending their concerts, with the largest area of growth among young people.

"Anytime you taste, one way or another, live symphonic music you want to come back. So maybe it was an education concert we did at a school, maybe it was the family at Pepsi Pops, you know there could be any number of reasons. We have a lot of UMC students who come, maybe somebody came with a friend and decided to come regularly," said Michael Beattie, MSO President/Executive Director.
