Woman may stand trial if deemed mentally competent

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Flora woman could be on trial Monday if she is determined mentally competent.

Shelia Ealey is charged with capital murder in the July 2010 death of her infant child.

Police say Ealey put her newborn inside a suitcase and dumped the suitcase in a field behind

Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Flora.

Ealey could receive the death penalty or life in prison if convicted.
