JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Domestic Violence Division of the Mississippi Attorney General's Office if making an informational guide available on protection orders for Victims of domestic abuse.

The guide was put together by the Domestic Violence Division staff and was partially funded through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, Public Safety Planning.

"Many victims of domestic violence are intimidated by the process of going to court for protection, particularly when they do not have the funds to hire a lawyer to represent them," said Attorney General Jim Hood. "This Guide provides answers to common questions about protection orders, such as ‘Who is eligible for a domestic abuse protection order?' and ‘What is the process for obtaining a domestic abuse protection order?' The Guide also provides easy to follow instructions for filing out a petition requesting a domestic abuse protection order."

The guide is currently available to the public on the AGO website, www.agjimhood.com.  In addition, a copy will be provided to each domestic violence shelter in the State, to each court with the authority to issue domestic abuse protection orders, as well as to each public library.
