Yard sale mapping

As the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm and that is certainly the case when it comes to yard sales.

Eva Matthews runs E. Matthews Estate Sales in Charlotte, N. C. She says the sooner you can get to a sale, the better chances you have of getting the best items up for grabs.

"They are lined up almost an hour before I open my doors," Matthews says.

Specialized "mapping" websites like gsalr.com can help you make the most of your time.

Here is how they work: You type in where you want to shop and the sites bring up a map with locators for every sale in the area.  You then click on the icons and browse the ads.  Once you decide which sales look interesting, click on the ones you want to visit.  The website's software will map out your trip so you won't waste a second trying to find the next sale.

Matthews believes this new technology will change the way people shop yard sales and estate sales.

"[It] used to be you were fumbling through the paper and were forced to map out your trip," she says.  "This is going to make it much easier for the shopper and great for people having the sales."

Yardsaletreasuremap.com is also great for people on the selling end.  They gather their information from local newspapers and Craigslist.

Before you drag the kids out of bed bright and early to shop the yard sales, map out your day and make the most of your time, and get to the good stuff before it's all gone!
