Rain and storms possible tonight

Posted: Updated:

The cold front that came through last night and today will stall across south Mississippi this evening. An isolated shower or storm is possible near the front this evening, but as of late afternoon First Alert Doppler is quiet.

I expect the front to lift back north as a warm front overnight and Tuesday morning. As this happens, showers and storms will develop along and just north of the frontal boundary.

Some storms may become severe, with golfball size hail the main threat. Also, the tropical air mass over us will allow for these storms to produce heavy rain. Flash flooding could be an issue if multiple storms move over the same areas.

The risk for strong winds or tornadoes is very slim. But, if a storm can form right along the warm front or just south, it could produce strong winds or even a tornado. Again, that threat is very low and not likely to materialize. I will, of course, be monitoring things overnight. If there are warnings, they will crawl at the bottom of the screen and we will also do cut-ins overnight, if we have severe weather.

The warm front will continue to lift northward on Tuesday. More scattered storms are possible late Tuesday and Tuesday night.

It appears a stronger cold front will push the unsettled weather out of our region late in the work week. The weather for this weekend will be sunny, dry, and feature comfortable humidity levels.

Highs will be in the middle and upper 80s the next few days, with lows in the 60s. Highs this weekend will be in the 70s, with lows in the 50s and maybe even some 40s Sunday morning.
