Sound Off: Farish St. Audit

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Whenever there is a car wreck, we just can't resist slowing down and looking. I feel the same way about Councilman Kenny Stokes. I know I should just ignore him, but I just can't. His latest rant is wanting to audit the developer of Farish Street's Entertainment District.

An even sadder commentary is that he got enough Jackson City Council members to agree with him. Even the City Attorney tried to talk some sense into them.

The project lay dormant for years while the City Council did nothing. Then David Watkins, who turned the King Edward and the Standard Life into beautiful, successful projects, got the development of Farish Street back on track.

David Watkins has done wonders for the revitalization of downtown Jackson. He must be the most patient and determined person in the world to continue to invest in the City of Jackson. For Watkins, this is certainly a case of "No good deed goes unpunished."
