Man injured in afternoon shooting

Posted: Updated:

Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes is calling for an end to violence after a shootout injured one man Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at 1391 Holloman Avenue in Jackson just after 1 p.m...

The home and an SUV were shot up. One person was shot in the elbow.

Stokes says , "They're using high powered guns and innocent bystanders are being put in harms way."

Witnesses say they saw a shooter in a black SUV, chasing and firing at the driver of a Ford Expedition.  The driver has been identified as 18-year-old George Linson.  The rear glass of the vehicle was shot out in front of the home, with Linson running inside.

Ricky Blackmon who lives at the house said the began running when he heard the shots.  A day later, multiple bullet holes are found in his car in the driveway, his home, and a lamp post out front.  Blackmon was uninjured.  He say Linson ran into his home without his knowledge.  He doesn't live at the address and was transported by AMR.

According to JPD spokesperson Officer Colendula Green, he was shot in the elbow and it is not a life-threatening injury.

Authorities say there were a number of shell casings inside the home where it appears the shooter chased someone.

Our photographer counted 19 shell casings on the street outside.

Jackson Police have not released any suspect information.
